The fine print
Schoolers Rules. Terms & Conditions.
Entry
- NZ$49 per test, paid when you submit your video. No membership, no closing dates. Entries are open all year.
- Any Schoolers test from Introductory to Grand Prix, no qualifying.
- Enter as many tests as you like, whenever you like. Each entry is judged on its own.
- A rider and horse together form a combination. Your results are tracked per combination, per level.
- Ride under your own name or an alias. Only your display name appears on the rankings.
Riding
- Any saddle and bridle: English, western, baroque, bitless, treeless. No tack rules.
- No plaiting, no competition dress. Ride in what you train in.
- Arena: flat and rectangular. Every test sheet specifies the required arena size, either 20×40m or 20×60m, and the test must be ridden in the size stated on the sheet. If a test is ridden in the wrong size we will ask you to ride it again in the correct size and resubmit, at no extra cost. Sand, grass or makeshift is fine, and so are improvised markers. How to measure up your arena
- Entry at A: not every arena has an opening at A, so make do with what you have. You can ride around the outside of the arena and turn onto the centre line to begin. The judge marks the test from the turn onto the centre line.
- Ride the test as written. A caller is welcome.
Video
- Landscape, filmed from C, in good natural light.
- Whole test visible, from the entry at A to the final halt and salute, in one continuous take.
- Upload to YouTube at 720p or better, set to unlisted (not private), and paste the link into the entry form.
- Your video stays private. It is shared with the judge only and is never published.
- One submission per entry. If a video is genuinely unjudgeable we will ask for one replacement at no cost.
- How to film your test
Judging and scores
- Judged by a qualified dressage judge on the 0–10 scale, as it would be at a show.
- Your Schoolers Score is the percentage on your scoresheet.
- A full scoresheet, with remarks for every movement, and a video commentary walkthrough are returned within seven working days of submission.
- Download both within 30 days. They are not stored online permanently.
- Scores are final. One free re-review per rider per calendar year, just ask. The judge’s decision on a re-review is final.
Personal Results and ribbons
PRX™ is dressage you ride against yourself. There are no placings and no field to beat. Your Personal Result (PR) is your best Schoolers Score so far, for one horse and rider combination at one level.
- Your first test at a level gets you on the board and sets your PR. It cannot earn a ribbon on its own.
- Every time a later test at that level beats your PR, that is a new Personal Result and a ribbon is posted to you. There is no minimum margin.
- Any Schoolers test at the level counts toward the same PR.
- Move up a level, or ride a different horse, and you start a fresh line with a new first test.
- Tests that do not beat your PR are still judged and commentated in full, and still show in your test history. They are simply not a new PR.
- Ribbons are sent by standard post within New Zealand. Overseas riders may be asked to cover postage.
- The judge may, at their discretion, decline to count an obviously soft first test as the bar. We want your line to reflect a genuine ride.
- Spot prizes may occasionally be awarded at our discretion.
Rankings
- Every judged entry goes on the rankings: one line per combination at each level, showing your PR, the number of tests ridden and the ribbons earned.
- Lines are ordered by PR within a level. This is for interest and encouragement; nobody is ranked against anybody else and there are no placings or prizes attached to position.
- Your line shows your display name (real name or alias) and country. Tap a line to see every test on it.
- Ask us at any time to change your display name or take your line off the board.
Changes and refunds
- Fees are non-refundable once your test has been judged.
- If you need to withdraw a video before it is judged, tell us and we will hold your entry for a future test.
- If we cannot judge your entry for any reason on our side, you will receive a full refund or a replacement entry, your choice.
- We may update these rules from time to time. Entries are judged under the rules in place when they were submitted.
Your privacy
Rankings and results are published on this site and our social feeds using your display name only. Real names, contact details and postal addresses are held privately and never published without your consent. Your video link is shared with the judge only. Testimonials are shared with your permission and by initials unless you tell us otherwise.
