The fine print
Schoolers Rules. Terms & Conditions.
Schoolers Series Entry
- NZ$120 covers three tests for one rider and horse — a concession card you use at your own pace.
- Nominate your level at entry. To be eligible for prizes, ride any test within your nominated level.
- Levels 0–7 are open to everyone — no qualifying. The feedback is worth most near the edge of what you can already do.
- Ride under your name or an alias, changeable between series. Alias riders stay private on the leaderboard.
- A rider and horse together form a combination. Change horse and it's a new combination with its own progress line. Rounds within an entry are transferable to other horses and riders, but each new combination starts a new line on the leaderboard. Note progress scores require three rounds completed on the same combination and level.
Timing
- Your three tests never expire.
- To qualify for the progress board and prizes: complete all three tests within three months of your first.
- The window starts when you submit Test 1, not when you enter.
- Take longer and your remaining tests stay yours: judged, commentated, on the all-time board, but not eligible for prizes.
Riding Attire
- Any saddle and bridle — English, western, baroque, bitless, treeless. No equipment rules.
- No plaiting, no competition dress. Ride in what you train in.
- Arena: flat and rectangular, 20×40m or 20×60m. Improvised markers are fine. View Measuring guide
Video
- Landscape, filmed from C, in good natural light.
- Whole test visible — entry at A through to the final halt and salute.
- YouTube, 720p or better, not set to private.
- One submission per test. If a video is genuinely unjudgeable — we'll ask for one replacement at no cost.
- How to film your test
Judging and scores
- Judged by a qualified dressage judge on the 0–10 scale.
- Full scoresheet and audio commentary video returned within seven working days.
- Scores are final. One free re-review per rider per calendar year — just ask. The judge's decision on a re-review is final.
Recognition & Prizes
The Series is scored on progress. Your three tests draw a line, and progress is the slope of that line (calculated by 'least-squares linear regression' across all three), so you are ranked on your own climb rather than your average test percentage. A rider improving from 55% to 63% will beat one who sat at 70% throughout.
Each month, the riders who complete their third test that month are ranked on progress within their level. The steepest climbers are celebrated on the leaderboard and on our social feeds, and Series placings 1st–6th receive a printable digital rosette. Every level also publishes its top score of the month, whatever the field size.
All three tests must fall inside your three-month window to qualify — see Timing.
Rosettes
When six or more combinations finish in the same month — at one level, or bundled with its neighbouring levels — placings 1st–3rd on progress get something in the post. Fewer than six and the month's recognition stays digital.
One parcel, one postage — overseas riders have the option to cover the courier for worldwide shipping.
Small levels are bundled
A level needs at least six combinations finishing in the same month for physical prizes. Fewer than that and the level is combined with its nearest neighbouring level (since it's a progress score), then the next, until the group reaches six — so small levels still get their share of parcels.
Spot prizes
Occasionally awarded to Series riders, at our discretion.
Not eligible for leaderboard or awards
One-off entries. Entries taken over by a different rider, and rounds continued on a substitute horse. Scoresheets and commentary videos continue as normal in both cases.
If you can't finish
Fees are non-refundable once your first test is judged — but nothing is forfeited. You've bought three tests and they're yours until you use them.
- Pause. Pick your remaining tests up whenever you're ready — they never expire.
- Switch horses. Finish on another horse, at whatever level suits it.
- Pass them on. Give your remaining tests to another rider.
One-off training tests
- NZ$49 per test, any level, no deadline and no membership.
- Same riding, arena, video and judging rules as the Series. Training Tests are private and do not appear on the leaderboard.
- Not eligible for prizes.
